On-Campus Internships With the UAPD Digital Forensics Lab and the Network Intrusion Lab for CC 395 Credit

Minimum Eligibility Requirements:

Any undergraduate and graduate students from all departments and colleges at the University of Alabama are welcome to apply for an internship at the UAPD Digital Forensics Lab in either fall or spring semesters. Students may also apply for an internship at CCJ’s Network Intrusion Lab for spring, summer, and fall semesters.

  • 3.5+ overall GPA
  • Be able to pass a background check
  • For undergraduates, CC 201 is a prerequisite for the Digital Forensics internship

Application packets for on-campus labs MUST include:

  1. A cover letter stating:
    • Which internship track and semester you are interested in
    • Why you are interested in an internship position
    • CWID
  2. Unofficial transcripts
  3. Your professional resume

These materials should be emailed to the appropriate supervisor on or before the deadline for the semester (see below).

  • To apply for an internship position with the UAPD Digital Forensics Lab, please send your application packet to the UAPD Lab Manager, Scott Gilliam, at sgilliam@uapd.ua.edu.
  • To apply for an internship position with the Network Intrusion Lab, please send your application packet to the CC Research Director, Dr. Adam Ghazi-Tehrani, at aghazi@ua.edu.

Internship decisions  are made following (1) an application packet review, (2) a background investigation, and (3) an in-person interview.

External Internships (Off-Campus Internships for CC 395 Credit)

Application packets for off-campus internships MUST include:

An email to CC Internship Director, Ms. Kellin Treadway, at kntreadway@ua.edu listing the following:

  1. Semester you are applying for (e.g., Summer 2022)
  2. CWID
  3. Agency/company name and location
  4. Intern supervisor’s name and email contact info
  5. Brief statement (couple of sentences) about how the internship relates to your studies in the cyber minor

Registering for CC 395

In order to apply internship credit as CC 395, the following materials should be emailed to the CC Internship Director, Ms. Kellin Treadway, at kntreadway@ua.edu on or before the deadline for the semester (see below).

  1. Semester you are applying for (e.g., Summer 2022)
  2. Your CWID
  3. Agency/company name and location
  4. Completed Internship Contract form attached as a pdf
  5. Completed CC 395 Syllabus Contract form attached attached as a pdf

Due Dates:

Spring

  • On-campus internships (DF Lab and NIL): October 15
  • Off-campus internships: Friday of Dead Week

Summer

  • Off-campus internships: April 30
  • On-campus internship with NIL: TBD
    (please note that internship positions with the DF Lab are not offered during summer)

Fall

  • On-campus internships (DF Lab and NIL): March 15
  • Off-campus internships: Friday of Dead Week
